Eduardo A. Bustamante, is a Partner of the firm and chairs our Real-Estate, Finance, and Transactional Practices. Mr. Bustamante, a former name partner at his previous firm, has been in practice since 1980 and focuses on large real estate, financing, construction, joint ventures, and acquisitions. He has extensive experience in the resort, industrial, commercial, and housing markets, and has also designed numerous structures for foreign ownership and investment in Mexican projects of various kinds, including mixed-use ventures with Mexican Ejido Cooperatives.
Mr. Bustamante received his Master’s Degree in Law from the University of San Diego in 1985 and graduated magna cum laude from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 1979. He is the recipient of an Academic Excellence Award from the Instituto Mexicano de Cultura, for the highest achievement for his graduating class in Law.
Originally a litigator, Mr. Bustamante continues to represent clients in many areas of general and business litigation has also acted as an expert witness and adviser on Mexican Laws, in numerous trials before US Federal and Local Courts. He is an official translator before the Baja California Supreme Court and has participated in a variety of Mexican legal proceedings involving foreigners in Mexico.
Currently, Mr. Bustamante acts as domestic [Mexico] counsel for US public corporations and continues to advise firm clients in the structuring, legal compliance, and implementation of foreign-based and cross-border commercial, industrial and general business projects.
He has successfully secured approvals for foreign investment projects before Mexico’s Foreign Investments Commission; is a frequent lecturer on Mexican Law both in Mexico and abroad; and has written extensively about the application of Mexican legislation, in the areas of real-estate, Customs, franchising, and joint venture acquisitions. He is licensed to practice law throughout Mexico and is a member of both the National Corporate Attorneys’ Association in Mexico and the US-Mexico Bar Association.
